Lisa Kleypas was one of my favorite writers for a long time. I anticipated the release of her books and drank in the beautiful words as I read each new story. I want to know where that author went because I haven't seen her much over the past few years and especially in this series. It's a rare occasion for me to want to skim in a Kleypas book, but I wanted to in this story. I didn't find the characters, especially Garrett, that interesting and the story did not pull me in at all.. I wish these authors would quit writing for the series and write each book as a stand alone. The need to tie in to previous books and the reliance on the knowledge of and likability of those other characters weakens each story. I'm wondering if the need to get out several books in an allotted time is ruining stories altogether with way too much filler and very little originality. I know I am being harsh but I am comparing Kleypas to Kleypas, and this one just can't compare to her earlier work. When I used to read the old ones, I'd go to sleep dreaming about the words and the poetic nature of them. Now, nothing. Even the vocabulary seems different. There seems to have been a switch to the same old formulaic writing of many HR novels. Kleypas should go back to her roots and take time with her next one. I'm actually surprised how many loved this. I'm disappointed because I know Kleypas can do much better. I think if you love this series you will likely enjoy this book. If you haven't read the others, this is a pass for me.

From the first chapter to the last chapter, this book is pure awesomeness!!

I love the (h) "Garrett" . She is a medical doctor-the only female in Britain who has fought her way to succeed. She is a fire ball, a fighter, brilliant, funny at times, naive, strong, confident, capable of protecting herself and is a just perfect! I truly loved her style and her ways!

The (H) "Ethan", oh my....I fell in LOVE with him! He is definitely an Alpha male, who has been in love with Garrett for years now. He is a undercover home office defective/assassin, dangerous, lonely, handsome, strong and Irish. And when he speaks with his Irish brogue....get your fan out!

When these two get together it's passion, love, adventure and romance!! There is a scene when Ethan is teaching Garrett how to fight. He's so gentle with her, he holds her hands, rubs his fingers under her wrist, it's just scenes like this that make this book soooooooo good!!

She's never been kissed and Ethan is so romantic, slow and patient, he gives her little love bites....oh my, I can't tell you how many times Ethan almost had me swoon. But it's not just the love story that makes this book good, it's the action, adventure and everything else that makes me love Lisa Kleypas books so much!!

Lisa did her research on this book! I'm in the medical field and hearing some of Dr. Garrett's terminology had me hooked to the storyline. It was like a movie, I just devoured this book in one day!!

Thanks Lisa Kleypas for this amazing book that I will read again!

Hmmmm...where should I begin? Nothing will ever compare to the quick wit and great characters of the Hathaway series for me. I had high hopes for this book and a lot of it I enjoyed. However, I never really got the relationship between Garret and Ransom. Garret was so uninteresting to me and the love scenes could have been pasted and copied from any of her other books. I cannot read "crisp curls" again ...ever. I ever felt the connection between the h and H.
I was actually hoping for Ransom to die...I thought it would have been a great book if she had discovered she was an unmarried pregnant female doctor and ended up with the other Ravenal brother.
I do enjoy roaming through the victorian era landscape with Kleypas and love her attention to detail...I would so love her to break out of the more formulaic mold of her writing and take a few risks. She has the talent for it for sure.
Magnifique, again. It's bizarre. With each new book, I brace for a disappointment that never comes. Kleypas truly defies what I've come to expect from most authors
Highly recommend. So wonderful when a series stays compelling book after book.
Both hero and heroine are captivating. Secondary characters are vastly appealing, even if you haven't read other books.
Plenty of intrigue, romance, and tension. The sizzling scenes never seem like gratuitous additions. There is a feeling of escalating purpose to each that culminates in a lovely and enthralling romantic tale.
